On the 21st and 22nd of March, the 6th ICPLT (Interdisciplinary Conference on Production, Logistics and Traffic) took place at the TU Dortmund University. The international conference brought together around 70 researchers from the fields of transport and logistics.

The conference, which is held every two years in alternation at the TU Dortmund and TU Darmstadt, deals with the interfaces between production, logistics and transport. This year's conference focused on research results related to sustainability and resilience in logistics.

The chairman of the conference, Prof. Dr.-Ing. Uwe Clausen - Director of the Institute of Transport Logistics at the TU Dortmund University and of the Fraunhofer IML - opened the conference with his welcome address. In his short speech, Prof. Clausen addressed the issue of resilience, meaning the ability to react to disturbances, before going on to outline possible measures in transport and logistics systems as well as the tasks of science for sustainable transport logistics.

After his welcome adress, Prof. Uwe Clausen handed over to Dr.-Ing. Maria Tsavachidis, CEO of the European joint project EIT Urban Mobility, who reported on the experiences of European cities with mobility and other innovative projects. In the second keynote of the day, Dr. Joachim Weise - Senior Vice President Data Strategy and Analytics at DB Schenker - gave an insight into the company's network optimisation.

The first day's programme was rounded off by a conference dinner at the Dortmunder U in the heart of the city. In the former fermentation and storage building of the Dortmunder Union brewery, the conference participants were able to continue their exchange of ideas and enjoy a performance by the "Physikanten", well-known from German television.

The second day of the conference began with Prof. Dr. Hubertus Bardt, Head of Science at the German Economic Institute, presenting an economic perspective on supply chains, cost changes and investments in times of global crisis.

A total of 28 national and international presentations over the two days of the conference covered topics ranging from freight and passenger transport, analysis and planning methods to innovative drive systems.

The winner of this year's Best Paper Award, Dr. Petra Stelling and Sabrina Brunner, stood out with their presentation "Knowledge gaps among key actors concerning the electrification of the Swedish freight transport system".

Prof. Dr.-Ing. Uwe Clausen and Prof. Dr. Ralf Elbert, Professor at the Chair of Management and Logistics at the TU Darmstadt, would like to thank all participants and look forward to welcoming you to the 7th ICPLT in Darmstadt on 18th and 19th March 2025!
